January 5, 1956- Celtics beat Knicks after 3rd game in 3 days between teams

The Knicks beat the Celtics in Philly on Tuesday night, Syracuse on Wednesday night, but they could not get their 3rd straight win against the Celtics on Thursday night at Madison Square Garden. 9,281 fans were on hand for a doubleheader of basketball and they received quite a treat. The game was tied 13 different times but the Celtics pulled away late to take a 92-87 win over the Knicks. Jack Nichols led the Celtics with 24 points and 13 rebounds. The victory brought the Celtics season record to 17-11.

In the 1st game of the doubleheader the Fort Wayne Pistons went on to defeat the Philadelphia Warriors 92-81. Philadelphia was never really in the game and trailed by 15 at the half with Neil Johnston, Tom Gola, and Paul Arizin held to 0 field goals at the half and the team could not recover. Joe Graboski was the only Warrior who played with a level of consistency and he led all scorers with 31 points.
