January 27,1956 Pistons beat Celtics 2nd straight game

The Fort Wayne Pistons beat the Celtics for the 2nd game in a row, this time beating them 106-97 in Boston in front of 9064 fans. The win for the Pistons was their 1st win in Boston in 6 years. The Boston Celtics led the game early taking a 53-46 lead at halftime before rookies Corky Devlin and Chuck Noble led the Pistons charge as they eventually took a 68-67 lead in the 3rd quarter and they didn't trail for the rest of the game. This was the Celtics 4th straight loss and dropped their record to 24-19 for the season.

In an earlier game at the Boston Garden the Rochester Royals routed the New York Knicks 111-93. Knicks coach and Original Celtic Joe Lapchick had announced he was resigning as coach just the previous day and his team was beaten from beginning to end. Maurice Stokes was 12 for 28 from the field scoring 26 points and also grabbing 26 rebounds. Stokes 12 rebounds in 1 quarter and 18 in the second half set Boston Garden records.
